Heart-breaking tributes to little boy who died in tragic road accident in Ennis

An aunt of the little boy who died in a road accident in Ennis on Wednesday has said that her “heart can’t take no more” as tributes pour in for the tragic youngster.The comments come as an open air prayer service was held for Hunter Molloy (18 months) who died in the terrible accident outside his home in Co Clare.Hunter died at the Ballaghboy halting site on the Quin Road, on the eastern outskirts of Ennis, at around 12.30pm on May 8.Gardaí on Wednesday evening were still present at the scene as part of the investigation into the circumstances of the fatal incident that includes an examination of the scene and a car by forensic collision investigators.

 

Hunter’s aunt wrote on social media: “My little nephew, I was playing with you two minutes before you passed away. My heart can’t take no more.”Please Lord take me away from this cruel world. RIP Our Hunter. May you have the best bed in heaven.”The fatal accident occurred shortly after midday on Wednesday afternoon and the infant was transferred from the scene to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) but was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.An autopsy is due to take place on Thursday to establish the exact cause of death.

 

Initial indications suggest it was a tragic accident on a narrow internal road of the halting site, which is located about two kilometres east of Ennis town centre.Gardaí said a family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family.A mourner wrote online: “My heart is broke for you. I’m so, so sorry for the loss of Hunter, I remember the day he came into our world, only a few hours apart our boys are, look down on your mammy and daddy, baby.”

“Rest in peace to Peter Molloy’s little son Hunter, it’s heart-breaking lads, God help ye at this time Amen,” wrote another.”Rip Hunter, you’re with the angels and your uncles now my heart is broke for all the family.””So sorry for your loss, it’s so, so sad, may he get the best bed in heaven, RIP Hunter.”Parish Priest of Ennis, Fr Tom Ryan said the incident was a “one-second tragedy.”He said prayers with the infant boy’s bereft parents and wider family. Fr Ryan christened the deceased along with his siblings and also married the children’s parents.
